Zero Waste Kitchen Cleaning
Whenever I think of cleaning I'm reminded of my mother's kitchen. It always smelled of cinnamon, counters clean and clutter free and dishes always put away.
I moved out of my parents at 18 and at 21 I still haven't managed the organization and routine my mother has. But I'm slowly finding things to help me.
One of my daily routines is cleaning out the sink for my youngest daughter (3 months) to wash in.
The first thing you need to do is wash your dishes. One of my favorite dish cleaners is Dr. Bronners soap. Its multipurpose, refillable, and diluteable so it lasts for longer periods of time. I also use a dishwasher for when my dishes have stacked as tall as a mountain. When that happens I turn to Dropps dishwasher pods.
So my dishes are washed, my sink is empty and i want the kitchen fully clean before I wash my daughter. I reach under the sink and the cleaner I used for years is gone. I finally knew it was time to change to a zero waste cleaner. When I went on my monthly shop to my local zero waste store and told them I was looking for a kitchen cleaner they showed me a spray bottle by Cleaning Essentials. The bottle is pre-measured and labeled so you can pour in the right amount of ingredients everytime.
And its not just for kitchens, there's recipes for glass, the bathroom, wood, and tile. And you can feel good knowing your money is going to this company because they are a 1% for the planet member.
After spraying my counter or sink. I wipe with a wet dish cloth. And just because I love a nice clean smell I have a spray bottle with 25/75 Castille soap, water mixture that I spray and wipe down afterwards.
My counters are clean, my sink shining. I turn to my stove and it looks disastrous and I try to remember when was the last time I cleaned that. So I look under my sink and grab my stove cleaner I've been using for almost 6 months at this point. SCOUR, local to Colorado I know it didn't have to travel far to get to me. I simply use a wash cloth and some elbow grease and the stove is clean.
My kitchen is cleaned. My daughter is washed all thats left to do is sit down with my husband and watch some Netflix before bed. And honestly I can say nothing is nicer then laying down and waking up to a clean kitchen
